The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) was founded in 1909 with private donations and through contributions from the city of Stockholm and the Swedish government. Core activities include Master of Science Programs, MBA-programs, doctoral studies, research, and executive education.
Research has a strong position at SSE. More than 300 researchers conduct research within the School's four institutes. The Economic Research Institute is the largest and carries out approximately 90 percent of the School's research. Additional institutes include the Institute for Research in Economic History, the European Institute of Japanese Studies and the Institute of International Business.
The M.Sc. graduates are attractive on the labor market. Corporations visit the School weekly to recruit students, and thus a majority of the students have accepted their first job before graduation. SSE Executive Education is ranked by the Financial Times. Besides open enrollment programs it offers Executive MBA-programs.
In 1999, SSE became the first EQUIS-accredited (European Quality Improvement System) university in Sweden. The accreditation applies to SSE in its entirety.
