The Karolinska Hospital is an eminent university hospital of international standings. The hospital was established in 1940, both as a seat of research and teaching. It also operates as a large emergency and specialst hospital for the Greater Stockholm area.
The hospital has about 1,200 beds and in a single year treats some 55,000 in-patients and 700,000 outpatients. The number of employees is approximately 7,800.
