By car

Getting around Stockholm by car is relatively easy compared with other capital cities - except during the rush hour.

The speed limit is generally 30-50 km/h. Current road and traffic information on slowdowns, roadwork, etc. is available from the Streets and Real Estate Administration, the Stockholm branch of the National Roads Administration Vägverket or on traffic reports on P4 Radio Stockholm at 93.8, 94.7, 102.1 and 102.9 FM and Radio Stockholm/Huvudstadsradion at 103.3 FM SR.

Parking
Given the short distances between sights and the city´s excellent public transport system, all visitors are recommended to leave their car in one of the many car parks.

The difficulty of finding on-street parking varies from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, but there are many large outdoor car parks. The city centre has many car parks offering excellent evening rates (SEK 25 for the entire evening).

More information on parking (for the disabled, etc.) is available on the website of Stockholm Parking or by telephone on +46 8 772 96 00.

Bear in mind that more and more parking ticket machines accept credit cards and Cash cards, and new payment systems are making it possible to pay after the actual time you park.

Long-term parking
At the major outdoor car parks, tickets can generally be purchased for a few days at the most.

If you need to leave your car for a longer time, you can park at the Silja or Viking Line terminals. At Ropsten station (Glasverksvägen/Ropstensslingan), you can buy a one-month ticket for SEK 500. Bear in mind, however, that these parks are not monitored round the clock. There are additional long-term car parks adjacent to the airports.

Go to Nordisk Parkering to get more information on other private parking companies .

Tip!
Did you know that there a large number of "park & ride" car parks adjacent to commuter rail and underground stations? These are often free of charge or cost just SEK 5-10 per day - a more economical and environmentally sound alternative. For more information, call Stockholm Parkering, Ph: +46 8 772 96 00.
