Stockholm is one of the most popular congress cities in the world. The Swedish capital attained a fourth place on the ICCA’s ranking list for 2003, and was number three the year before. The inflow of bookings for future events is very positive. In 2004, 25 international organisations chose to situate coming congresses in Stockholm. In all, this corresponds to approximately 330 000 congress nights.
This year, Stockholm will be visited by 56 international congresses that together will attract more than 263 000 participants. Sweden’s long research tradition and strong position within the medical industry continues to attract congresses to Stockholm. In September, one of Europe’s largest medical congresses, the 27th Congress of the European Society of Cardiology, ESC, will take place with over 20 000 participants visiting the Swedish capital. Stockholm also has a strong position within many other scientific fields, in particular IT and Biotech.
Stockholm – The ideal congress city
There are many reasons why more and more organisations are choosing Stockholm as a congress location. For one thing, everything works here. Swedes, by nature, keep their promises and follow agreed-upon procedures to the letter. Hotel and conference facilities are of high standard, have high capacity and offer guests the latest IT technology.
Stockholm offers fair prices, shopping, culture, beautiful architecture, a world-renowned kitchen and a unique archipelago. The pulse of a major city’s infrastructure is combined with the charm and personality of a small town. Stockholm has everything you could wish for and more. And despite forming part of the northernmost regions of Europe, it’s easy to travel to.
