Stockholm City Hall is one of Sweden’s most interesting and impressive buildings, both in terms of architecture and artistic embellishment. The building was designed by Ragnar Östberg, one of the leading architects of the Swedish national romantic style. Several leading Swedish artists also contributed to the rich interior design. It was completed in 1923, and has become a symbol of Stockholm.
The building houses the Council Chamber, where the city council meets, as well as offices for city administrative staff. The annual Nobel Prize banquet is held in the Blue Hall and is followed by a ball in the Golden Hall, decorated with rich gold mosaics.
