Skansen offers visitors a unique experience of life in Sweden in earlier times. In some 160 cultural and historic buildings from all over Sweden the life of both peasants and landed gentry is portrayed. Walk into the tiny home of an impoverished laboring family or lose yourself among the elegant rooms of a country manor house. The town quarters have wooden urban dwellings where crafts such as glass-blowing, printing, shoe-making and pottery are demonstrated.
Scandinavian flora and fauna feature everywhere, with bears, wolves, elk and reindeer in natural habitat enclosures. Traditional annual festivals such as Walpurgis Night, Midsummer, Lucia and New Year are celebrated at Skansen. It is also the venue for seasonal markets, folk dance displays and other events.
