Stockholm is among the four largest cruise destinations in the Baltic Sea Region when it comes to number of calls, turnarounds and passengers together with St Petersburg, Copenhagen and Tallinn.
Passenger Nationalities 2010
Almost 60 percent of the cruise passengers visiting Stockholm are from the so called traditional cruise markets US, Great Britain and Germany. However, the South European countries, mainly Spain and Italy, are increasing markets and we have seen a substantial growth from these countries the last few years.

Passengers from the U.S. are mostly couples around 58 years of age that have been on at least two cruises previously. They have a good income and like to discover the exotic Baltic often with St. Petersburg as the main attraction. European passengers are generally somewhat younger couples in their forties who are familiar with the region. Changing trends in passenger demographics include an increase in the number of families travelling with children, single travellers, gay cruises and incentive cruises.
Economic Impact
In 2011 cruise passengers spent over SEK 500 million in Stockholm. The majority went shopping and/or sightseeing. A “day passenger” spends an average of 6.6 hours in the city and spends an average of SEK 1000. A turnaround passenger, that is most interesting from an economic point of view, spends an average of 2,5 days in the city and has an average outlay of SEK 2 600 per person.
