Port Statistics
The Baltic Sea Region is the fastest growing cruise market in the world and there is great potential for continued growth. As new, larger cruise ships are entering the market, the number of passengers visiting Stockholm increases annually. Since 1996, Stockholm has experienced a growth in the number of calls with nearly 100 percent and number of passengers 243 percent.

Passengers from the U.S. are mostly elderly couples over 60 years of age that have been on at least two cruises previously. They have a good income and like to discover the exotic Baltic with St. Petersburg as the main attraction. European passengers are generally younger couples who are familiar with the region. Changing trends in passenger demographics include an increase in the number of families traveling with children, single travelers, gay cruises and incentive cruises.
Economic Impact
2005, cruise passengers spent over SEK 184 million in Stockholm. The majority went shopping and/or sightseeing. A “day passenger” spends an average of 6.6 hours in the city and spends an average of SEK 1000. A turnaround passenger, that is most interesting from an economic point of view, spends an average of 23.5 hours in the city, 1.7 hotel nights and has an average outlay of SEK 3.500 (SEK 1.100/day).
