The world’s first ABBA museum to open in Stockholm (November 2006)
The legendary pop group ABBA is getting its own museum in Stockholm. ABBA the Museum will be a modern museum filled with ABBA’s music, original clothes, history, images, instruments and much more that captures the group’s heyday in the 70s and 80s. It will also be an interactive experience where visitors can participate with all their senses. ABBA the Museum will be an excellent location for social venues. Stockholm has kept its top ranking amongst the world's congress cities. The ICCA ranking list for 2005 shows that Stockholms is 10th in the world and best in Scandinavia. See ranking list  »


Stockholm builds major congress centre and hotel (January 2006)
A new hotel and congress centre is to be established in Stockholm adjacent to the Central Station. The hotel will have more than 400 rooms and the congress centre will have capacity for approximately 3,000 participants in theatre seating and 2,400 people in banquet seating. The centre, which will face south with a grand view of the City Hall and the surrounding waters, will open in 2009.
"Stockholm is already a popular choice among congress organisers and with attractive congress and hotel facilities such as these right in the centre of the city, we can interest new grups in selecting Stockholm" says Vice-Major for City Planning Py Börjesson.

Stockholm's largest
hotel (December 2005)
Stockholm´s largest hotel will feature 558 rooms and conference facilities for up to 800 persons. The opening of the new Clarion Hotel is estimated to January 2008. "There is always room for a new exciting and well situated hotel in Stockholm..."

Grand Hôtel is expanding (November 2005)
In the late summer of 2006 Grand Hôtel will be inaugurating 78 new rooms and suites together with eight conference rooms in a neighbouring building on Blasieholmen. The estate is now being transformed into double rooms, suites and junior suites. Thanks to the vast areas, all rooms will be more spacious than the ones within the current hotel. The conference facilities will hold from eight to 180 people.  On the eighth floor there will be a large suite approx. 330 square metres, i.e. 3,550 sq. ft., including a sauna and a cinema with eight to ten seats.

Record number of cruise ships in Stockholm
(November 2005)
This year´s cruise season is over, and it has been another record year!
2005´s summer cruise season brought a record number of inaugural cruise ship calls, cruise lines and passengers to the Swedish capital. Between May and October, the Ports of Stockholm had 259 cruise ship calls carrying 228,000 passengers.

Europe's largest conferences come to Stockholm (October 2005)
Stockholm was once again ´the Heart of Europe´ for a week in September. The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and its 24,000 conference delegates have now left our capital, and this time as before, we took excellent care of them. Stockholm is one of the few European cities which have the capacity to host conferences of this size, and we are pleased and proud to also be able to welcome the European Respiratory Society (ERS) to Stockholm for the third time in 2007, to a conference which attracts 15,000 delegates.
